If you are under 18, you don't need any photo ID to board the plane. If you are over 18, you need a driver's license, state ID card, or other form of state-issued photo ID - your student ID would not count.

If you don't have proper ID, they may still let you board if they can verify your identity another way, in which case you should bring whatever ID you do have. You will have to go through additional security screening, so allow extra time. And you are not guaranteed to be allowed to board in that case.

Yeah. You are still in high school and under 18. Currently, there really isnt any ID restrictions for people under 18, so you can just use your school ID. If they had specific requirements, they would say so. If you dont need to bring an ID, they will say so as well. But since they didn't, the school ID probably will work.

School ID is acceptable for teens, but once you get your passport, just go with that.

No! Melissa and ACE are wrong! A school ID doesnt actualy count as ID! I always use my passport as ID! Because that would mean a baby can get on with no ID! And baby's need ID too! I was gonna use my school ID before, but I had to use my passport instead! It's not gonna work! Just wait for your passport! In some cases your birth certificate can be enough! I would recommend getting off Yahoo Answers, and checking a more reliable source for airline ID requirements within the US! Remeber, a school ID is not a real ID! They just made it so people from other schools, can't get into other school's dances!

Brian S is wrong, Melissa is right. (And Brian is *definitely* wrong about your birth certificate "being enough.")

I mean, if the TSA rules are anything to go by:

Effective June 21, 2008, adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID.

Passengers who do not or cannot present an acceptable ID will have to provide information to the Transportation Security Officer performing Travel Document Checking duties in order to verify their identity. Passengers who are cleared through this process may be subject to additional screening.

As long as you are a minor, under the age of 18 you can use your school picture i.d. as a replacement for a regular photo i.d. when traveling by air. Security at airports nowadays are pretty intense so if I where you I would try and get a state issued i.d. and/or passport before you go just as a backup. Safe travels.

If you were going out of the country, you would have needed a passport. But since your going within the country you don't need a passport. Your school ID card should work just fine for identification.

If you are below 18, legally you don't need an ID, but still bring your school id if you don't have your passport yet.
