My daughter came to visit us over christmas the easy jet flight arrived at Malage 30 minutes late.

They went to Malaga airport checked in Their luggage was put on the plane then they were told the flight was cancelled by this time they should have been at their destination. They waited for the retrieval of their luggage and and were taken to a hotel for the night and were due back this morning.

What are their rights are they entitle compensation and the payment of the excess charge on the car park. The reason for the cancellation was the crew were sick and Easy jet had a standby crew

The airlines are under no obligation to provide you with transportation. They can cancel or switch flights at their own discretion. What you can do is if you go through a travel agency you can buy travel insurance that will cover flight difficulties such as hotel stays or meals. In this world most airports only have "slots" so if an airline misses it slot, they can trade it for another slot or wait till their next scheduled slot and lose one. Same goes for maintenance or clean up, anything could have happened. Maybe someone vomited on the plane and they need a cleaning crew to deodorize the plane or the plane is suffering mechanical difficulties. You as a consumer won't be obligated to know why the flight was canceled or changed.

I am not certain but don't think you have any rights but once when i was diverted from luton to stanstead I wrote a polite letter to them enclosing the receipts for my extra out of pocket expenses and said to them I know that they do not have to refund theses out of pocket expenses but would they be kind enough to consider it as an act of good will and they did refund them try that see how you get on they do take a while to answer but will answer you you can get the address from their website

Good luck with any compensation. Easyjet have quite a few appearances in the press over their lack of after sales service.
