My husband is in Florida and I in Ohio so we've been learning more tricks to this airline ticket business. I flew my son back to Ohio via Southwest with a Wanna Get Away ticket. I am not sure on the specifics, you should find this on their site, but he flew just as a regular ticket would. There is an advance purchase required. The day I ordered his by phone (he was a child so had to) she said it was the last day to purchase within the 7 day range to get that price. Some fares are 14 days. Some days of the week the rates go higher although they may go down on other days. Another thing I read online and had to try for myself is this. I kept checking tickets for a must have flight and the prices were affordable. Then within 1 hour, the price more than doubled! I was shocked. This was on priceline and also the company website. I read that day, that many of these have tracking cookies that keep track of your flight plans you check prices on and that if you peek a few times, they know you are probably going to bite and they jack the price up. After finding the prices double, I shut down IE and seached through Foxfire browser and there it was, the same low price I had hesitated on buying all week. So try different computers even. On Ebay I saw Airtran has promotion codes for $25 off a ticket and if you are planning roundtrip, you can purchase two one way tickets and use 2 $25 but if using one roundtrip purchase, can only use one discount.

The "Wanna Get Away" option is essentially, no frills. you get put in B-C boarding group. However it in no way affects your flight or any factors with it, except for seat, which you get to chose. There is no catch, Southwest knows how to do business.

Southwest has a chart on their website that shows the difference between Business Select, Anytime and Wanna Get Away fares. Here is a link to it:
