Question:
How many miles do I need to redeem a ticket for travel inside the US on American Airlines?

I've spent an hour on the phone waiting for an agent to answer. I also looked on the website to no avail. How can American make it so difficult for their AAdvantage members to find this information? Have they never heard of user-centered design before?

A mile saver award travel ticket is 12,500 within the continental US, 25,000 miles is needed for an "anytime" r/t flight within the US. All that info is listed on the AA website in the AAdvantage menu on the left side of the homepage, under >program details<:

I think you have to be flexible with your dates of travel. Right now so many people have frequent flier miles and want to cash them in for free flights since the price of an airline ticket is still quite high. Airlines have cut the number of flights, therefore the number of seats that can be redeemed for free travel has been cut as well. I am not sure if United has a policy that if you use extra miles such as 40,000, you can get any open seat on any flight. But if you want to use 25,000 miles for 5 seats, that might be difficult, especially if you travel close to the holidays.

It should be 25,000 miles for a domestic ticket within the 48 states. If you want to fly to Alaska or Hawaii, it is around 35,000 miles I think.

depends on where you are going, ive gotten a ticket for 7,500 miles but other times it was 35,000 and also when youre traveling. also you can upgrade your class for more miles. some flights are more expensive than others as well, expensive meaning more miles obviously.
