Hi Guys,

Choose Any Airline but certainly not Tiger Airways.. Had a Very Bad experience flying with them recently to BKK.. Their Hotline ALWAYS needs to wait approx 20 to 30 mins before someone picks your call.. They allow change of passenger prior to 4 hours before flight but doesn't have a 24 hour hotline. Therefore those whom flight time is from morning till 1 pm, you can forget about changing passenger's name last minute as their Hotline is only open at 9am in the morning..

The last experience made me realised I would rather fork out more from my pocket for other Airlines rather than Tiger.. Probably the name is meant for ground business not for flying certainly..

Jetstar Airway.

With Jet star, I enjoyed the following:

1. I paid low fares to and fro where ever I go.

2..I departed comfortablely from Chang Airport T1 .

3. I entertainted by a very friendly crew team.

4. I enjoyed 10kg carry-on baggage.

5 .I saved time and trouble by making use of "Get-Away Packages by Originating Cities"

Jetstar!!! Really got great deals for Lunar..

JetStar pre-Lunar New Year sales starts now.

Although it’s called pre-Lunar New Year sales, it’s not for traveling during the Lunar New Year period but for a later date (think Apr – Aug 2010).

Grab them before they are sold out (almost all pre-Lunar New Year air tickets are sold out by now).

Promotion Details

Booking Period: 23 – 29 Jan 2010 (Starts 12 Noon and ends on 12 Noon too)

Travel Period: Varies between 7 Apr and 25 Aug (some dates are blacked out, check JetStar website for more info)

Remarks: One-way flight, Do check Jetstar’s T&C if you are interested.

In particular I have booked our trip well in advance, in mid December 2009.

Here are expenses:

13 Feb Tiger Airways - Singapore-Bangkok 140$

16 Feb AirAsia - Bangkok-Phuket - 60$

18 Feb Jetstar - Phuket-Singapore - 70$

In fact we are travelling by almost all budget carriers, and they are all quite affordable.

I guess, if you book in advance you will get it much cheaper. If you are just planning your Lunar New Year vacation, I would suggest to book not budget airlines, as the prices will be almost same.

Cost wise I would say Jetstar. But looking at the whole package and experience I would rather take SQ.. Ofcourse its expensive but have you ever tried comparing the rates if you go on peak season? Last December I went back to Manila and surprisingly SQ is cheaper than those opportunist budget airlines! Amazing right, so next time try looking at SQ fares and also other airlines because they have promotions..

Dear Forumers......

You may forget about booking anymore air tickets from the 3 buget airline namely Air Asia, Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia. The ticket price offer by this 3 budget Airline no longer budget.

For ALMOST the same price, you can check it out on SIA, Thai Airways or even Cathay Pacific.

When you decided to book Budget Carriers, you may want to do your sums correctly like adding your 2 Ways Ticket Pricing, your check in lugguge pricing and most importantly the Credit Card Service/facilitation Fees. After adding all this amount, then make a comparison between a full fledge Airline.

Budget Airline is usually "Budget" when you are able pre plan your trip at least 4-6months in advance. If not, you may want to give the budget airline a miss when you do a last minute planning cos the amount is comparable to the Full Fledge Airline.

For Lunar New Year BEST DEALS

the best airline to go is normal airline ( country destination airliner )

for example if going Bangkok, Hanoi = Thai Airways,

People always say budget airline is cheap but when you calculate again the price is much more expensive compare to normal airline. Yes it cheap during other days but not Lunar New Year

This is due to fluctuation of budget airlines as their price is always steep and not consistent during super peak season such as the Lunar New Year ( super long weekend )

This is term of all same standard being compared such as ( air ticket + taxes + 20kg luggage + meals )

Usually, airasia. Unless u beat the price with jetstar. Tiger...........i find it to be the most expensive among the three, if u were to check the price as and when u feel like going off for a vacation.

Promotion, jetstar(beat the price with a combination of airasia and tiger....in some cases, go light without the luggage)

We flew AirAsia from Singapore to Kerala last Dec 09. Had to transit in KL - you leave plane, walk a LONG way to terminal, GO through immigration, GET your luggage, a HALF-HOUR to puzzle out that INTERNATIONAL Kerata check-in is at the DOMESTIC counters and load your luggage here, then GO through immigration again and WALK the same long way back to another plane.

We NEVER had this experience with transit in ANY airport before. Usually you stayed inside the transit area without any immigration procedures, board the connecting flight with boarding pass issued either at embarkation or at transit counter but your luggage is routed through to your destination.

Had we waited to fly Silk Air in Jan 2010, we would have less hassle with immigration, check-ins, inclusive luggage allowance and food, and get there quicker in 4.5 hrs instead of nearly 7 or 8 (return trip was nearly 12 hours due to flight delay - and pay the same fare.

Jetstair Airlines.

Tiger departs BUDGET Terminal (and not really very very cheap as well), Airasia (Dangerous!!! 2nd - 3rd class aircraft, don't play with your life!)

Jetstar is one of the budget carrier that departs from terminal one.

Apart from the low cost, you can tour around the airport. And the of the funny part is you don't need to "climb" up the plane yourself where tigerair needs. If you're taking a train or bus, it's rather incovenient travelling to the budget terminal.

However, consider a fully service carrier sometimes eg. TG/CX as they offer really go value with just a slight differences of maybe few tens. You got a meal, 20KG baggage allowances and people to serve you without digging your pocket for coins to pay in budget airlines.

If you book early, let's say 6 to 10 months inadvanced. Airsasia & Tiger probably offer the best deal. But if you cant travel on the exact travelling date & need to make an amendment for the date, you have to pay S$50 for the amendment charges for tiger on top of the prevailing ticket rate, I am not sure for airsasia for the amendment fees but the prevailing ticket rate still applies. If you need to travel 1,2 or3 wks inadvanced,it;s better to check the rate from full service airlines. The rate is as comparable as budget air, further more no baggage charges apply.

There are a number of "low cost" airlines in the region that serve these points.. As mentioned, Air Asia is the biggest of them.. But there is also Cebu Pacific (a Philippine based carrier) and Jetstar (an Australian based carrier) that also fly to Bangkok, Singapore, Manila and Hanoi..

If you use a low cost carrier be sure to read all the rules and fees that you may be asked to pay.. It's not uncommon for these low-cost carriers to charge for any checked baggage, advance seat assignment, preferential seats (like bulkhead and exit rows) and all food and drink on-board..

I choose Singapore Airlines for flight to Ho Chi Minh City. It is cheaper than Jetstar at today's price. As this is the CNY season, I would like to have a little bit of gambling. So for me, room, food, and beverage are free. Compliment frm the Casino. Even airport pick-up is free. My total expenses for 5D/4N trip is only S$499.00 (the price of a return economy ticket) Price available from the internet on-line booking.Where can you find such a deal? However, there is a 1.5 hours drive from Ho Chi Minh City to my destination. For those who love gambling, there are 9 casinos for you to choose from. Happy CNY and happy gambling.

JetstarAsia for Manila and Bangkok. They have good choices of meals on board for a reasonable fee (lest you get hungry). Cabin Service is great. And "Safety" and "Comfort of Passengers" tops their priority...not to mention the good landings as well. To Hanoi no idea?

hi, i bought return tickets to Bangkok for February from Singapore Airlines online for only SGD 316. i checked out Thai Airways and Cathay and the prices were all about $300+, peak dates will bring it to about $400+. For my personal opinion, theres no point buying budget airline for this period as it can easily cost $300 - $500 too after adding in baggage charge, taxes, transaction charge. My friend bought Tiger Airways to Bangkok for $600++!!!!

Give yourself a little treat to a more comfortable flight this chinese new year, the difference in price couldn't be that much due to peak season. Try Thai Airways, Cathay, Garuda .

Cheers

Don't always think low price = best deal. I have been on some budget airlines and after calculation the service, food, extra baggage cost, insurance and restriction and cost to change the ticket date. It is simply not a good deal.

I still think take a non-budget is still a good deal if you need to carry extra weight on board.

2010-01-31 19:04:54 UTC
honestly, it is best to stay in SG during this period. Budget airlines mark up their prices so much that it costs more than double (to most destinations) of the non-sale prices.

Best would be to book for CNY at least 8 months before.

If you really need to go, airasia generally offers to best prices amonst the standard 3 budget airlines but have limited destinations

I was trying to book Tiger Air for my November trip last air, the price was quite competitve as compared to Air Asia, but I realised that I still have to pay for "luggage" even if I chose not to check in any luggage when I go from Singapore. For Ho Chi Minh City or Jakarta you can try Lion Air (an Indonesian budget carrier).

I flew Lion Air from HCMC to Singapore last week and to my pleasant surprise they serve food and drinks (for free)!

One website which I find useful is www.skyscanner.net . It scans all the budget carriers based on your desired timing to find the cheapest destination or airline. It gives a rough idea on the price range, but of course to book, you still need to visit the individual airline's website.
