I want to be a flight attendent kinda but everyone around me says it wont be enough of an intellectual challenge for me... I am in the ib diploma program and I am very much so above average intelligence. I like history and I was going to do something related to east asian studies but being a flight attendent sounded fun... would I get bored with the lack of challenge?

I am in the IB diploma program .

Good for you and you have ruled out the 199 other jobs that are available with Airports and Airlines.

Of course maybe you never thought there were other jobs that had flight privileges.

I like history and I was going to do something related to east asian studies but being a flight attendant sounded fun.REALLY

You think working for hours on your feet is FUN. You think living out of a suitcase is FUN.

Do you honestly expect to be doing those wonderful long exotic flights with long layovers your first week on the job?

As about 100 apply for each flight position be warned just having a high grade point is one line of many on the application. MANY things go into the decision of the few percent that get an interview.

i didn't mean to phrase this in such a way. I apologize if it offends you at all.

No offence taken. You are ASKING a fair question.

The world of WORK is not a lot of fun for most.

May want to work on your spelling, the use of Capital letters and learn a few languages for the best chance.

Mentally Challenged?? Maybe.

I guess something like crew scheduling would be too complicated for you to entertain as a possible Airline job.Mental agility needed every time there is a storm.

Being a flight attendant sounded fun. REALLY it did? WHY do YOU think the job is fun?

Most jobs are not FUN. Some jobs are just more pleasurable than others. The first few years at any job does not have the best situation for most.

It can take years before YOU qualify for those special flights. It is much more than your GPA.

Maybe for you it is a Travel Agent that specializes in East Asian Travel. Having tours to historical stuff.

Just ONE example

Good Luck Suggest you loose the attitude and investigate a little more the job title(s) you have some interest in.

Most flights are routine and rather boring when you have done it for week after week after week.

Sometimes you have a fun group of passengers sometimes a bunch of jerks just the way it is.

Just like the passengers you get delays, cancellations and diversions to your planned week ahead.

It is more a monotonous job than not and dealing with people on a daily basis is not fun.  You don't get weekends and holidays off and don't expect to be flying to glamorous places or get rich

The field is extremely competitive, as well. Chances of being offered a position with a carrier are not very good

It is really being a waitress (OFTEN UNAPPRECIATED by rude people who want... no EXPECT... everything to be served in their lap) in the sky. I am not putting down the profession, but just saying how you will be treated by some jerks. There are many advantages I understand. Cheap or free (I DON'T KNOW) flights are to me, a "terminal" vacationer, attractive. SOME people (I hope me) are nice to fly with and not too demanding; but there are all kinds.

In summary. If you wish to try this profession, do so. You are not endentured to ANY profession or job in the 21st century. If you don't like it CHANGE. Find out if your airline has a pension program. Perhaps if you stay a period of time, 5-10 years, you would have some retirement pension at 60 or 65. In a Texas university, all employees- even the gardner and janitor- get "teacher retirement" after only five years.

So, finally... boredom. Maybe the Job in the plane would be hum-drum. I find all work boring. Teaching, telecommunications, even car-washing, all have boring moments; usually more than excitement. BUT if you travel to excess, something you could not do (perhaps) otherwise, in a different 9 to 5 profession, the chance and hope  and looking forward to the next destination on your travel plans can make the most boring employment tolerable.

F*ck what people tell you

This is your life, not theirs. You want to become a flight attendant? Go for it!

The worst that can happen, is that you realise they were right, and quit to do something else
