Question:
airport security wand question?

I was wondering if the razors in pencil sharpeners would set off the wand thingy they swirl over you. I am going on a trip soon via airway and I am an artist you see. I always keep a gradient 2h pencil tucked behind my ear with the point away from my forehead and a sharpener in my right pocket (by habit now I suppose) and I wanted to know if I would have to remove my sharpener if the wand thingy they use goes over me. Would it detect it? Thank you in advanced.

Hello I have never had a pencil sharpener in my pocket while going through airport security so I can't be certain but I believe it will set it off I have had a small hair pin in my pockets and had it be detected just while going through security put it in the scanner they will have bins and tell u to empty your pockets and put your stuff there even if you have your boarding pass in your pocket I have been asked to remove it from my pocket. It depends on the security person some will just ask you to remove metal objects some say anything in your pocket you have to remove it but I would reccomened removing its since its metal and if it sets of the device it will lead to you being searched more thoroughly. I hope I could help you and safe travels :)

They don't use a "wand thingy" any more, at least not for primary screening . If you have to go through the full body scanner, you will need to remove EVERYTHING from your pockets - I had my billfold in my back pocket, and it picked up the magnetic strips on the credit cards. Put the sharper in your carry on, and let it go through Xray

Metal detectors detect metal, lose the sharpener and the pencil when you go through the metal detector, put them in your carry on bag.

it may or may not but they ask that you empty everything out of your pockets and place it in a grey bin provided to you so it should not be in your pocket when you go0 through the metal detector anyways.
