Upgrade your seat

How do I upgrade my seat?

When booking your flight online, you will be given the option to upgrade your seat at the best price available.

Once you have a ticket, or if you have previously booked your flight, you can upgrade your seat online by logging into the manage your flights section of our website. You must upgrade your seat up to 3 days before your flight is due to depart. You will need your e-ticket number/booking reference number to retrieve your booking details.

Please note you will only be able to upgrade your seats online if you have booked directly with Virgin Atlantic. For all other bookings you will need to contact your travel agent or tour operator if you wish to book an upgrade.

If you are a Flying Club member and wish to use your miles to upgrade, please call the Flying Club helpline.

If you are having any difficulties upgrading your seat, then please contact the reservations team to assist you with your upgrade.

Please note, upgrades are issued subject to availability.

I work for Virgin and i can tell you if you have purchased a cheap economy ticket it won't matter if your smart or scruffy as you will not get a free upgrade unless you have a frequent flyer card.

Sometimes we upgrade if we have over sold down the back, which could be likely on an Orlando...however preference will go to putting gold then silver then red into premium...if premium is full then the same happens in that cabin into upper.

You can offer to pay for an upgrade and if there is room then they may well let you and that price can change on a number of circumstance. The only way to be in with a chance for upgrade in the future is to join our flying programme and start getting points on your card to move up the ranks.

Premium is considerably more than economy and you don't get that much more for your money either... I suggest asking politely for a free upgrade when you get to the airport (gatwick?)... unless you can afford a few extra hundred quid for half a foot rest and one more inch either side of your hips...

I would be surprised if they would allow you a cheaper upgrade at the airport. Your best bet is to look presentable and ask the check in staff if there is any possibility of a free upgrade. Make sure you look presentable though they wont upgrade you if you look scruffy

Depends on the particular flight but a Virgin Atlantic PE in my experience was about £250 GBP more each way.
