Do I need the 52 page (non-standard) passport book?

I'm filling out the paperwork for my first passport book and I'm a little uncertain as to whether or not to get the non-standard size. I'm currently a freshman in college and am planning on studying abroad in Europe within the next school year. This will be for a full semester (about four months) so I'll obviously need to get a VISA as well. When I'm over there, I want to make the most of the opportunity when I can and visit/learn about all these other cultures by visiting several other countries. Would I be fine with the standard passport book or do I need to get the 52 page version?

Just get the standard. That is all you will need.

After your intial arrival in Europe you will not need a passport to travel on to most other European countires.

I just paid $80 to have supplement pages added to my passport, so I wish I had gotten the extended page passport at the git-go. I do travel frequently to countries that require a page for the visa. Some require a full page for documenting immigration fees (Argentina and Chile for example if you are American). This was not an issue when passports where only good for 5 years.

A passport lasts 10 years. If you really think you would be traveling a lot over the next decade, get a 52 page.

Get the standard passport book. You wont need the whole thing for 4 months travel. I've used the standard size for year long travel and have come back with pages unused.
