1) Jamaica is not in Africa, it's in the Caribbean very near the USA (if that's where you're from), please consult a map before you leave on a holiday. You can find several maps of both the caribbean and Africa on the Internet at google image search. Knowing geography will change your life.
2) Jamaica is inhabited mostly by descendants of Africans, who were brought to the island by the British slave traders, they worked as slaves on sugar and other plantations or served as unpaid domestic servants. The British banned slave trade in 1807, and the people in Jamaica gained their freedom in 1833 with the abolition of slavery in the British Indies (British Crown colonies in the Caribbean).
3) If you want still to go to Jamica and not the African continent, there are many package holidays organised there, consult any travel agency. There is a fair amount of violence in the capital Kingston, so most package holidays avoid the big city and take you to the pristene beaches in the country.
4) Going into Africa, there are much less organised tours in a local travel agent apart from Kenyan or South African safaris, or visits to Cape Town the whitest metropolis in all of Africa. Going on your own, I'd recommend the following countries: Gambia, Ghana, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia. All are safe places for tourists (following normal precautions and booking some hotels in advance with pick-up from airport) and offer great sites to visit from the jungles of West Africa (Ghana, Gambia), savannah, highest mountain in Africa of Kilimanjaro, and wild animals like lions and giraffes of East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania), to unspoilt nature and waterfalls of Zambia, and pristene beaches in Mozambique. Prices vary a lot, so plan well and be prepared for a few surprises since planning on your own you will encounter them. Be careful of using credit cards while there, since there is a lot of fraud, try to draw money from ATMs instead and keep some dollars at hand to change money in any of the numerous foreign exchange bureaus.
