I bought it in June so it's supposed to be cheaper when you buy it in advance. when I looked at them now there 1033 + 103 in tax so 1136 with tax. I payed 1250 for each. they break down on the invoice is 1498 for the tickets and 980 for tax so the tickets were $749? and $500 in tax? isnt that a bit much?

It's very hard to say how much the tax should be because we don't know which route you are flying. Airline ticket taxes are high, and taxes on international tickets are higher than on domestic tickets. $500 might be correct, but I don't have enough information to say for certain.

The fact that you bought them from a travel agency does not affect the tax. That's the same regardless of where you buy it.

Why not ask your travel agent to explain it? He/she should be able to confirm how much is tax and what the taxes are for.

Daniella, I think that someone at the agency is a little creative with their bookkeeping. If the fare is 1033 x 2 = 2066.

Tax is 103 x 2 = 206

2066 + 206 = 2272.

If you paid 2500, then the agency's charge for their service is the difference or 2500-2272= 228.

For international tickets, that's pretty typical. I've often had international tix where the taxes and surcharges added up to a lot more than the base fare.
